Tom Ridge helps online merchants

As you would expect, cybersecurity weighs heavily on the mind of Tom Ridge, former Secretary of Homeland Security. The former governor of Pennsylvania, this week joined the board of Ethoca, whose technology lets online merchants conduct safe transactions. Merchants often absorb financial losses, or chargebacks, as a result of fraudulent purchases.

“Technology is so enabling, but it is also susceptible to fraud and exploitation,” Ridge said in a telephone interview. “The abuse of it ranks up their with brick-and-mortar fraud and everyday crime. It is, and will continue to be, a major problem.”
